Being a vegan can be hard at holiday time. Being anyone is hard at holiday time. Cakes and cookies, eggnog's and ciders, wine and mixed drinks, buffets and Aunt Marge's, trying to feed you. It is difficult to be good at the holidays. The Christmas song "you better watch out you better not cry, you better not eat a third helping of your Aunt Ester's sweet potato pie because it will go straight to your thighs", was not joking! We all gain weight at this time of year, unless you are holed up in your house without any friends or family, talking to your cat Chester who could care less what you looked like as long as he can't see the bottom of his bowl.
I fall off the wagon with regular regularity....LOL
I like to eat pie...There I said it. "My name is Vivacious Vegan, and I cannot walk past a strawberry Rhubarb pie with out sampling"...
I have given up alot in my life. Pie is not one of them. I gave up coffee too, for about 3 months, but happily it is back where it should be...In my favorite coffee cup next to me as I write this post.
I occasionally eat whatever I feel like, bean quesadilla's with soy cheese and boca burgers, french fries and pizza....
*Alicia, did you just gasp?*
I think it is healthy to be bad once in awhile, especially if you are restricted in your life by medical conditions that prevent you from having a "normal life".
I eat Chinese food once a week. I eat California rolls with sticky rice.
My point is this, Eat to live, do not live to eat...but, should the situation arise...
when your
Aunt Maude comes home for the holidays with your absolute favorite pistachio dessert, indulge in it for three minutes and then walk away.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner! I will say it again...Thanksgiving is just around the corner! There will be loads of yummies. Eat all of it, but don't eat all of it. I plan on having a little of everything, and I will have no guilt at all, because I know I can stop whenever I want!
I am mainly writing this for me, but if anyone needs a little back up, here it is. If you find yourself swooning over the dessert table and you are getting misty eyed, come read this post.
Here is my Thanksgiving Day menu, please share yours with me too!

I'm spending Thanksgiving with my grandmother this year, the first one we've had together since I went vegan. I don't know how she'll handle it ... the vegetarian thing was hard enough. I told her I'd bring plenty of food for me to eat, and everyone to share, but I don't think she's very happy about it ... I wish she had your more open attitude about Thanksgiving dinners.
Welcome back! What a great meal you have planned. Ours is a bit unorthodox - I let everyone in the family pick a dish for the table, and that's what we have. It can be quite eclectic. So, far I know we're having tofu rice rolls and cake, but I'll find out the rest today b/c I have to start shopping now!
Brandi,
I know you well enough that I didn't gasp, but I was a little surprised. LOL
We have gone the other direction this year. No turkey for the omnivores at my table. They eat enough meat all year long I think skipping it won't hurt them one bit. Something tells me they won't agree. Oh well......
My menu is still a bit up in the air. I will have it finalized soon.
talk to you later,
Ali
So I can eat all I want as long as I have a three minute time limit? HAHA I can do ALOT of damage girl! I hope you have a great and happy Thanksgiving!
