Winter Salad and Pain

Today I made a tasty little treat! I made a apple mango pomegranate salad with mint. It was really tasty and super easy to make!

There really is no recipe, but here is one anyway

Winter Salad

1 large gala apple, peeled and chopped
1 mango, peeled and chopped
1 pomegranate, seeds removed
3 mint leaves, sliced thin

Toss everything together and serve immediately.

So it is 2:50am and I sit here aching and wondering how it is that I can go to sleep with my joints swollen. I am a map of pain tonight. It starts with my right middle toe, then traveling to my left knee, which branches out to both hips. My left elbow is twitching and both my wrists are swollen and finally to my index finger on my right hand followed by the right middle finger and then of course my left 4th finger....Why am I telling you this? Everyone else is asleep.
Psoriatic arthritis is a bitch. . .
I am at wits end...so here is my question to you.
How I can reduce the swelling in my joints so that I can get some sleep? My Internal Medicine doctor put me on amitiptyline for my chronic pain, he started me at 10 mg, but my rhuemetologist bumped it up to 25mg; due to my lack of sleep. Now I am forgetful and shaky......
I make a joint juice that has lemon, apple and parsley in it for a reduction in swelling and I have bumped up my calcium after my blood work came back twice with low counts.
Any suggestion's would be most appreciated!

so sorry to hear your in pain. I have severe crippling RA, but my vegan diet stopped all that pain and swelling immediately. Check if you have RA with your pyscian because that's what it also sounds like but if it helps you like it did me I take these vitamins on a daily bases that are crucial for arthritis suffers.

Salmon oil
flaxseed oil
vtamin E
MSM
folic acid
fish oil

These vitamins lubricate the joints and keeps them free from swelling & pain.

good luck and keep me posted on your health.

Your salad looks delicious, but I am so so so sorry that you are in so much pain. I don't know a ton about arthritis, but my mom has some inflammation problems and she puts a little bit of tumeric in pretty much everything she eats. She says it helps some.

I hope you can find some remedies that work for you!

mirbrewer, Thank you for the advice I have heard great things about tumeric, I have a full can, I will throw some in a smoothie when I figure how much I will need a day!

dolmadez, I eat a huge abundance of bananas..I actually think I could turn into a banana, they are great for anti-inflammatory illness as long as you are not allergic! Great advice! Thank you!

radioactivevegan,I haven't heard from you in awhile, I missed you!
I will definitely look into the tumeric. I am also looking into going gluten free and adding more protein.

I am not a doctor, but I heard that avoiding citrus fruit is used for joint problems...

Good Morning Brandi,

I think your diet is very anti-inflammatory now. But if I run across any new info I will let you know. Can you take baby asprinin? A low dose daily may help.

hugs,
Ali

I don't know much about the anti-inflammatory part, but I know something about getting to sleep. When you take calcium, do you take a combination of calcium and magnesium? It's my understanding that most people require a 2:1 ratio of the two. If you take magnesium before bed, it helps you sleep! At least it does me. Just don't take too much mag at one time, as it is also a laxative. (I take up to 2/3 RDA at once, no more.)

I also take a melatonin to sleep, but I'm not sure if that's something you're interested in.
