How to make your own High Pulp Orange Juice!!!

I must first apologize for the poor quality of my pictures, I started in the morning with this little project and then life happened, so I ended up finishing at about 7 pm. LOL

I love high pulp orange juice and normally I buy it, but with the cost of almost $4.00 for a half gallon I thought I might try it myself and control the amount of pulp plus, by making my own I can guarantee that there are no hidden ingredients like sugar of chemicals in my orange juice.

Did you know:

The pulp of an orange contains flavonoids which are currently still being studied but are thought to help prevent cancer, cardiovascular diseases and hold antinflamatory and anti allergy properties? Its still an ongoing study and started with a scientist named Linus Pauling. Linus Paulling also stated that Vitamin C could be one of the leading cures in heart disease. When I read more on this, I will post about it. My mother had heart disease and it eventually lead to her death, I wish I had known about the link between vitamin C deficiency and heart disease then.

Higher pulp orange juice contains higher calcium and is an advantage, particularly to older women, or those with lactose intolerance especially in minimizing osteoporosis. Differing opinions regarding health benefits of Vitamin C 100% RDA should perhaps be given credence, the opinion of expert opinion with Linus Pauling's credentials cannot be ignored. Higher carbohydrate content may be significant in overall calorie intake either desirable during high intensity training or undesirable if you are following a low carb diet. Shall we get on to the fun part and make some OJ?

I separated my oranges from their skins for two reasons, 1st reason my juicer is older and bogs down if given too much skins and 2ND. I forgot I had a high powered blender sitting in front of me that would have done the job...LOL

My next purchase is going to be a higher grade juicer, this one was very inexpensive and it shows. It will bog down alot if I try to process too much and the holding bucket is tiny. I had to dump my bucket twice before the whole process was done. I had an extra Simply Orange container and thought, why not use that until I can get a glass bottle with a lid for our orange juice? Recycling has always been one of my strong points. Humility, not so much....lol

Here is the finished product.
I used 15 oranges for 1/4 gallon of juice...I also threw in about 1 cup of pulp for added fiber and vitamin C.
Doesn't seem like much, but when you think of all the scary things that are not in it, it really is worth it. Use organic oranges if you can. Try to buy in bulk, I bought 20lbs. at Wal-Mart right before Christmas. Homemade orange juice tastes so much better than purchased and it is better for you in the long run!!

Later today, I am going to post the health benefits of buckwheat honey! See you then~

I spent a month at my Mom's house over the holidays. She has a Jack LaLaine Juicer, and it is amazing. She made me fresh orange juice a lot, and there is no comparison to store bought- even the simply orange (which I love) can't hold a candle to it! The only thing, is that it really takes a lot of time, and she bought some organic oranges, and it ended up costing every bit as much as from the store. But, like I said, it was worth it!

M- I cannot wait to see them full of fruit! I am hoping to plant blueberries out behind the shed where I am also hoping to make a nice patio area where Chris' truck is currently setting. It has been there so long I consider it yard art...LOL
Here's to us and our hopes for lucious fruits of summer!
